I started carrying a small notebook again this year, mostly out of frustration with my phone. Everything I typed there felt disposable — a note today, gone in the scroll tomorrow. A notebook doesn't work that way. It fills up. You can flip back through it and see, physically, what your attention was on in March versus August.
There's also something about the friction of handwriting that slows a thought down just enough to make it clearer. I don't have a grand theory about why this works. I just know that the ideas I write by hand stick, and the ones I type mostly don't.
