The Light at the End of the Field

The Light at the End of the Field
There is a stretch near the house where the road runs alongside an old field, and most evenings I do not think twice about it. Tall grass, a fence post, the same dog barking two yards over.

Last night the sun came in low and sideways right as I got there, and the whole field lit up gold for about ninety seconds. The grass seed heads went bright and fuzzy at the edges. Even the fence post looked like it was glowing a little.

I stopped walking. I am not sure I have stood still on that path in months. Nothing happened, nothing changed, I just watched the light move through the grass until it was gone, and then I kept walking home like normal.
